Mason bee

Mason bee on aster chilensis

A native bee on a native flower

This bee, also known as a leaf-cutter bee, is a great pollinator. They nest in holes drilled into wood or hollow tubes. You can even buy mason bee nests. I drilled some holes into a tree stump that I stood on end, but alas nobody moved in. The holes have to be the right size, and the bees are apparently fussy.
