Visualizing projects
The “after” images with plants are computer renderings. The “before” images are photos. Just showing how “real” rendering technology is getting.
Consults: Fast concept development in the field
It’s amazing what you can do with a couple of iPads, a laser and the right software, in this case Morpholio Trace and AutoCAD. These are examples of past consults for projects of different styles
Mobile Landscape Design on site
Running around a site waving your arms and explaining the wonders you’re proposing is fun, but does not work well for sharing concepts or remembering all the ideas discussed. This is especially true when we’re presenting alternate concepts that emphasize one aspect of the program over another. This is where mobile design shines. stencils siteContinue reading “Mobile Landscape Design on site”
Developing concepts with 3D modeling
Using 3D modeling is the step done after the initial concept gets sketched out on the iPad. This is where things get fine tuned in three dimensions, surfaces selected and verified, views examined and everything honed and ready for working drawings. Modeling the site after sketching it lets us look at sun and shade throughContinue reading “Developing concepts with 3D modeling”
A Trio of Concepts
These drawings show what happens when you take an iPad, stylus, laser measuring tool, some good apps and hours of practice, put them together with design ideas and run amok. They’re mostly completed in the field, with a few minor touch-ups in the office. The pieces get put together into a single pdf file, letterContinue reading “A Trio of Concepts”
A modern landscape for a modern house
The house had been remodeled into something wonderful, but the exterior spaces needed some love. They’ll be getting it soon. The problems are leaking pipes from an irrigation station and possibly from the water supply toContinue reading “A modern landscape for a modern house”
Views to impress
This is a view lot, so views should be impressive both on and off the property. From the master bedroom, two vanishing edges. From the great room, the long axis of the pool. From other rooms, the cool spa / water lounge. To complete this, lots of low, structural plants and ornamental grasses. Not allContinue reading “Views to impress”
Top ten Trace sketch of the month!
Morpholio honored one of Mike’s master plan sketches in their top ten this month. He’s the only landscape architect awarded, sharing the glory with architects, illustrators and industrial designers. This is his first award for the craft of illustrating a design rather than the design itself. The sketch is a detail of a master plan,Continue reading “Top ten Trace sketch of the month!”
Annette goes digital. Sort of.
She’s now using an iPad, just the basic bit over 9″ display. It’s already hard to tell she didn’t draw these by hand! She’s using a simple pen with a tip that the iPad can recognize. Paying $100 for an Apple Pencil was not on her radar, especially since it doesn’t really help you learnContinue reading “Annette goes digital. Sort of.”
