No Cross Connection Here!
A cross connection is where potable water can be contaminated by non-potable water if a drop in pressure sucks dirty water into the potable water system. This device, a pressure backflow preventer, prevents this from happening. This one device also allows all the valves to be buried, unlike the common atmospheric vacuum breakers that have to be installed on each valve (these are the typical mushroom-like things you see everywhere).
