About Design: theory & process
There are two categories concerning design: Process and Design. The Design category is for everything related to the theory of designing outdoor environments. Comments can cover style, art, design methods, ways of thinking about design, setting up a program and many other topics. The Process category is for discussions about the actual steps taken between the first idea and maintaining the built project. A project’s design does not stop once it’s installed, since correct maintenance must be followed in order for it to achieve and maintain its intended function and aspect.
Sustainable design has its own category since it’s more global. It encompasses not only the physical design, but the material sourcing, plant origin and selection, and energy/carbon/envioronmental costs and benefits related to an entire project. It also varies from region to region. For example, if you live in the wet tropics, then a lush, green tropical landscape can be quite sustainable – but this would certainly not be the case if you lived in the middle of a desert!
